There has been a major realignment of currencies over the past year or so. The trade weighted US dollar against the major currencies has depreciated by more than 12% over the past year, but only 6% against a broader selection of countries. The Euro and the Canadian, Australian and New Zealand currencies have appreciated strongly against the US dollar.. Relative to the US dollar the Chinese Yuan and Japanese Yen have, on the contrary, been relatively unchanged. While in Latin America, the Brazilian Real, which had depreciated over the year, has recently strengthened against the dollar
