The Composite Index of Leading Economic Indicators rose quite a bit more than the expected 0.7% last month. November's rise was revised up.

Eight of the ten component series contributed to the increase with large contributions coming from lower claims for jobless insurance, a longer workweek, the money supply and a steeper yield curve.

Over a six-month span, the percentage of the leading index component series that are up rose to 40%.

The Leading Index is based on eight previously reported economic data series and two that are estimated.
