Trade in goods by mode of transportation for Mexico was added to the **EMERGELA** database. A trade balance, exports and imports are available by mode of transportation such as by air, road, rail and sea. Monthly data are sourced from INEGI and start in January 2007. 

Chart: Trucks remain the undisputed primary mode for Mexican exports, accounting for up to 70% of exports by value moving across its borders. The surge in just-in-time manufacturing, particularly automotive parts and electronics (like computers and semiconductors), heavily relies on the flexibility, speed, and point-to-point delivery of trucks. Sea freight, which accounts for roughly 15%, is mainly utilized for bulk commodities (such as crude oil and agricultural goods) as well as transcontinental exports.

**UMSCA** → Summary Consumer Sentiment Indexes → The Index of Consumer Sentiment by Tercile of Stock Wealth

Indexes categorized by stock ownership were added to the **UMSCA** database, where the University of Michigan Survey of Consumers detail is housed. Indexes include consumer sentiment, current economic conditions, and consumer expectations. For each, series are available for the top third, middle third, and bottom third terciles of stock ownership, and also series for no stock holdings. Monthly data start in November 1998.

Chart: Plotted are the sums of each ownership category for the three indexes along with the S&P 500. The optimism spread between the largest stock owners and people with lesser portfolios is currently at one of its widest points dating back to 1998. In fact, optimism for the bottom three ownership categories are currently at all-time lows. Not so coincidentally, the S&P 500 is hitting all-time highs, indicating that rising stock markets benefit consumers with the largest stock portfolios but leave behind consumers with smaller portfolios.

**ENERGY** → Petroleum → Petroleum Product Prices Including Pump Prices → Nepal

Retail fuel prices for Nepal were added to the **ENERGY**, **INTDAILY** and **INTWKLY** databases. Fuels included in this table are petrol, diesel, kerosene, liquefied petroleum gas and jet fuel. These 7-day daily data are sourced from the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and start in November 2017.

Chart: Arguably, nowhere has felt the effects of the war in Iran more than Asia, as nearly 90% of the oil and gas passing through the Strait of Hormuz is bound for Asian countries. Nepal imports all its fuel from India – and thus these disruptions have caused steep price hikes, widespread shortages, and has forced the state-owned NOC into massive financial losses as they absorb some of the blow to consumers through subsidies. In the past two months, the price of petrol has increased by 36%, diesel by 53% and jet fuel by 102%. Natural gas, which is considered an essential household utility, has only seen a 4% increase primarily due to subsidies.

**GLSECTOR** → Selected Indicators by Country → Angola → Mining → Diamond Mining

Diamond mining statistics for Angola have been added to the **GLSECTOR** database. Series include carats of diamonds produced, average price per carat, and industrial taxes and royalties collected. These monthly data are sourced from the Angola Ministry of Finance and start in January 2001.

Chart: Despite fragile global demand and competition from synthetic diamonds, Angola continues to break production records, mining 16.7 million carats in 2025, an increase of 33.9% YoY following a 40.2% increase in 2024. These gains have made Angola one of the world’s top diamond producers by value. It has deliberately traded volume for value by offloading large inventories of diamonds onto the global market. However, this has driven the average price per carat down 39% YoY to $123.21 – and further down to $85.33 in Feb 2026.

**INTDAILY** → Americas → United States → US Surprise Indexes

Haver-calculated US Economic Surprise Indexes were added to **INTDAILY** and **DAILY**. The series are based on the Action Economics median forecasts relative to the corresponding as first reported figures. The series cover key economic concepts and sectors including GDP, production and capacity, current account and trade, consumers, housing, labor and inflation. Economic growth, hard and soft data aggregates are also available. Daily data start in May 2004.

Chart: A 10-year snapshot of the inflation surprise index (red) plotted against the differences between as reported and expected values for the underlying inflation indicators. In this case, they are CPI, PPI, import prices, and the ECI. The surprise index is in positive territory during times when the concentration of instances when actual inflation exceeds expectations is greater.

**GLSECTOR** → Competitiveness Measures → Bellwether Company Statistics → Meta Platforms, Inc

Financial statistics for Meta Platforms Inc. were added to the **GLSECTOR** database. Meta is the conglomerate that owns Facebook, IG, WhatsApp and Threads and is also one of the main players in recent AI infrastructure investment. Available series include revenue, costs, income and capital expenditure. Quarterly data are sourced from Meta Platforms SEC filings and start in Q1 2012.

Chart: The race to build AI infrastructure has escalated into one of the largest capex surges in history, with tech giants (Meta, Oracle, Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft) investing heavily to build and secure infrastructure for Generative AI. This massive spending is driven by the urgent need for data center capacity, advanced AI-optimized chips, and energy infrastructure to handle surging demand. As a whole, these 5 companies have spent almost $1.5 trillion since Q1 2021 and in Q1 2026, capex totaled $179 billion, an increase of 96% YoY.

**EMERGELA** → Bolivia → Business Cycle Indicators and Surveys → Central Bank Economic Expectations Survey

The Economic Expectations Survey for Bolivia was added to **EMERGELA**. This data set includes expectations for multiple time horizons for major macroeconomic indicators such as CPI, GDP, trade balance and others. Indicators of overall economic perception are also available. Monthly data are sourced from the Central Bank of Bolivia and start as early as March 2021.

Chart: Overall economic perceptions in Bolivia improved well into positive territory following the election of a new president in August 2025. At the heart of the new administration’s decree was the elimination of fuel subsidies which doubled fuel prices overnight and later intensified by the global economic shock triggered by the US-Israeli war against Iran in March 2026. Amid this and other serious headwinds, perceptions have reversed course, with the 6-month future situation index approaching negative territory once again in its latest reading.

**ESG** → Societal Vulnerability and Risks → Aqueduct Water Risk Indicators

Global water risk indicators were added to **ESG**. This comprehensive data set covering 165 countries provides indicators that reflect both current conditions and future projections of water supply, demand, stress, and drought & river flooding risk. Projection scenarios include status quo, optimistic and pessimistic scenarios. Annual data are sourced from the World Resource Institute and start in 2019 with projections out to 2080.

Chart: The data show that 25 countries are currently exposed to extremely high water stress, meaning they use over 80% of their water supply for irrigation, livestock, industry and domestic needs. 83% of the population in the MENA region is exposed to extremely high water stress with the seven most water-stressed countries being Bahrain, Cyprus, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, and the UAE. In the optimistic scenario, an additional 1 billion people are expected to live with extremely high water stress by 2050.

**EMERGELA** → Panama → Manufacturing and Services → Motor Vehicle Registrations

Motor vehicle registration statistics for Panama were added to the **EMERGELA** database. A total plus detail for cars, SUVs, vans, pickups, buses and trucks are also available. Monthly data are sourced from Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Censo and start in January 2020.

Chart: The motor vehicle market in Panama has rebounded strongly following a 2020 COVID slump, with 2025 marking the fifth consecutive year of growth. New vehicle registrations reached 60,233 in 2025, up 10.8% from 2024. So far in 2026, YTD growth through March is 17.6% YoY. SUV sales drive the market, accounting for 33,668 units in 2025, which is 56% of all new registrations. The boom in Panama is tied to a relatively strong, recovering, post-pandemic economy.

Featured Data Additions, May 15, 2026

**EMERGEMA** → Ghana → National Accounts → Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth (MIEG)

The Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth (MIEG) for Ghana was added to **EMERGEMA**. The MIEG is an  economic statistic designed to provide early monthly signals on the direction of the economy ahead of the full quarterly GDP release. Indexes and YoY growth rates are available for the total economy and its three major sectors – agriculture, industry and services. Monthly data are sourced from the Ghana Statistical Service and start in January 2023.

Chart: The economy expanded by 7.5% in January 2026 compared to the 8.2% recorded in January 2025. The data also show that all three major sectors of the economy recorded positive growth, pointing to continued broad-based economic momentum. The services sector was the standout performer recording growth of 9.6%, followed by industry at 7.2% and agriculture at 4.5%. These results suggest that Q1 GDP is likely to record moderate but steady growth, supported mainly by the services sector.

**EMERGEPR** → Singapore → Employment and Earnings → Hiring, Wages and Retrenchment Expectations

Additional labor market indicators for Singapore were added to the **EMERGEPR** database. Expectations of firms to raise wages and to hire new employees in the next three months expressed in % of firms are now available. These monthly series are sourced from the Ministry of Manpower and start in June 2020.

Chart: Looking ahead to Q2 2026, expectations are for the labor market to remain tight in Singapore and continue to expand. However, businesses are expected to be cautious in their hiring and wage plans amid increased economic uncertainty due to geopolitical tensions. The share of firms expecting to hire in the next three months declined from 54.6% in February to 44.6% in March, while expectations to raise wages declined from 39.3% to 25.4% over the same period. These are significant 1-month declines in expectations after multiple months of positive readings.

**EMERGECW** → Kosovo → Employment and Earnings → Youth Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET)

Labor force participation rates and youth not in employment, education or training (NEET) rates for Kosovo were added to **EMERGECW**. Both concepts are available as levels or rates by sex. The participation rate table also features detail by age group. Quarterly data are sourced from the Kosovo Agency of Statistics and start in Q1 2016.

Chart: Kosovo currently faces one of the highest NEET rates in Europe, with approximately 30% of males and 32% of females aged 15–24 falling into this category as of Q4 2024. While overall unemployment is at record lows (10.8% in 2024), the NEET rate has remained relatively stagnant, reflecting deep structural issues in the transition from school to work. In contrast, the Netherlands frequently maintains a NEET rate below 5% for young people reflecting effective employment support and vocational training to ensure young people remain in education or enter the workforce.

**ENERGY** → Country-Sourced Statistics → Brazil → Production, Sales, Import and Export of Oil & Natural Gas

A new, more detailed table for oil and natural gas statistics for Brazil was added to **ENERGY**. Concepts include production of oil, NGL and natural gas, sales of petroleum products and exports/imports of crude oil and oil products. Quarterly data are sourced from Petrobras and start in Q1 2019.

Chart: Brazil’s energy sector is experiencing a boom in oil production, reaching record highs driven by pre-salt field development. These ultra-deepwater fields deliver high-quality, low-sulfur light crude at competitive breakeven costs, driving energy sovereignty and substantial economic revenue. Since Q1 2019, pre-salt production has increased by 111%, currently produces 2.2 mboe per day, has proven reserves of 30-40 billion barrels, and is expected to bolster Brazil's energy future for decades.

**CNTRADE** → Motor Vehicle Exports

Motor vehicle exports detail for China was added to the **CNTRADE** database. These data, reported in number of vehicles, are available for 21 of China’s motor vehicle export markets. Monthly data are sourced from the China Passenger Car Association and start in April 2024.

Chart: China is currently the world’s largest exporter of motor vehicles. Exports have increased by multiple factors, from under 1 million in 2020 to around 8 million in 2025, essentially increasing 7-8 times over 5 years. In 2025, the top countries importing cars from China were Mexico, Russia, and the UAE, with Mexico importing over 539,000 units. US tariffs and other restrictions have forced Chinese automakers to pivot, driving a massive surge in vehicle exports to alternative markets in Europe, Latin America, SE Asia and the Middle East.

**ANZ** → **Australia** → Business Cycle Indicators and Surveys → Consumer Sentiment Index and Components

Growth rates for all Australian consumer sentiment series were added to the **ANZ** and **ANZR** databases. These growth rates were calculated by Haver Analytics using the full decimal precision data. The monthly underlying indexes are sourced from the Westpac-Melbourne Institute and start in October 1974 for the main series and March 1996 for the demographic detail.

Chart: Australians’ confidence took its biggest hit since the pandemic’s darkest days. In its latest consumer confidence survey, Westpac-Melbourne Institute found that sentiment crashed 12.5% to 80.1 in April. A score above 100 is considered optimistic about the future. All five sub-indexes deteriorated sharply in April, especially those measuring the current conditions. Surging fuel costs weighed particularly heavy on the family finance index (last 12 months) which plunged 16.7% YoY to 66.8.

**GLSECTOR** → Agriculture and Fishing → **Brazil**

Agricultural statistics for Brazil were added to **GLSECTOR**. Concepts include planted hectares, harvested hectares, production in MT and average kilos per hectare – available for approximately 30 agricultural commodities. Monthly data are sourced from the IBGE and start in September 2006.

Chart: Brazil is poised to further cement its status as the leading player in the global soybean market, achieving record shares in production. It is expected to harvest an all-time high of 174 million MT of soybeans from nearly 50 million planted hectares this season. This output would account for more than 42% of global production, up from 30% a decade ago. The US, which once supplied over 60% of the world’s soybeans, has seen its share decline. US production is expected to reach 116 million MT this year, only 27% of global production.

**SPAIN** → Demographics → Immigration and Emigration by Countries

Immigration and emigration statistics for Spain were added to the **SPAIN** database. The top ten countries of origin and destination are reported with every release by nationality and by country of birth. Quarterly data are sourced from the Instituto Nacional de Estadistica and start in Q1 2023.

Chart: Latin American immigrants in Spain exceed any other group and constitute one of the most striking features of Spain’s immigration composition. Drivers for this are visa exemptions and ease of obtaining Spanish nationality for most Latin Americans, the resulting network effect and reuniting of families. Latin Americans’ linguistic and religious affinities to the bulk of the Spanish population creates a very different social context to the one prevailing in other Western European countries, where Asia and Africa are the main source of non-EU immigration.
