Jobless Insurance Claims Ticked Up

Initial claims for jobless insurance rose a moderate 14,000 last week to 353,000 and reversed virtually all of the prior week's decline which was unrevised. Consensus expectations had been for claims of 350,000.

The four-week moving average of initial claims fell to 350,250 (-12.9% y/y).

Continuing claims for unemployment insurance fell 12,000 and the prior week's increase was revised lower to 51,000.

The insured rate of unemployment was unchanged at 2.6% for the seventh consecutive week.
