Economy in Brief

Initial claims for unemployment insurance fell 8,000 w/w to the lowest level since mid-February. The decrease last week to 295,000 followed a small upward revised 303,000 for the previous period. Consensus expectations for the week ended June 10 were 325,000.

The four-week moving average of initial claims fell to 315,750, the lowest since the beginning of May.

Continuing claims for unemployment insurance rose 15,000 following a downwardly revised 10,000 drop during the previous week.

The insured rate of unemployment remained stable at 1.9% for the fourth consecutive week.
